Forgive my generalising here but.....
The Swiss are not American. The mindset and cultures are different. Americans make their dogs wear sunglasses in America, but the sun still shines in Greece. No Greek dogs wear sunglasses.
Need I go on?

Personally y'all, I don't think ANY amount of gun laws is gonna make people stop killing each other. Guns are illegal in Chicago but it's the "unlawful" who get them thru illegal means. So much for gun laws.

If you make a guns illegal and make an effort to make it work it will save lives it wont stop it outright, with 33 students dead in the USA in this latest incident you have to do something.

Re: How can this keep happening!!!
The ONLY possible way is to stop making them (guns) and you know THAT ain't about to happen. As long as there is gun makers there are gonna be guns and you know somewhere down the line a batch of guns is gonna end up on city streets like they do now. In the early 1980s then Mayor Jane Byrne and the city government first made it illegal to own guns. After that law was passed the only ones who were the exception was those whose guns were registered, a policeman or security guard. I said that was the early 1980s. It's now 2007. A few years ago the current Mayor Richard Daley passed a law that if the gun you used to commit a crime is traced and found to have been used in a crime before, it would be a felony and could land you in jail a LONG time. Again it's now 2007 and crime has gone down but in the black community, we still have sensless shootings. Oh! did I tell you it's 2007?

Dear Mr Jaxxon
Thankyou for posting an "Average American Joe" view here. I think its some thing we here in this country need to hear more of. Our views of the States are usually media controlled so we tend to either think you are all Rednecks or Bilbe bashing Repulicans (Depending on which media source is your personal tipple)
I see the point you are making about tighter gun laws. We currently have a problem here in the UK with fake passports (stick with me on this) the process of getting a pasport is getting longer and harder, not to mention more exspensive. How ever I recently saw a article where an under cover journalist whent into a pub in London and had a new fake pasport with in the hour!!
My point being really that it seems no matter what laws are passed and what measures are taken it only ever seems to be the man in the street who suffers. People who want these things know where and how to get hold of these things. So in your town you can not have a gun in your house. But the chap who wants to rob your house knows how to get one. Its a terrible state of affairs and one that leads to the paranoia that warren mentioned.
I have to be honest if I lived in the States even though I am and all ways have been anti fire arm,I would certainly feel happier with a gun in the house.
Im sorry if i have just spouted a load of crap there folks....the meths have kicked in and the bedsit is spinning a little !wink!

Re: How can this keep happening!!!
Why does this keep happening? Well, apart from the obvious copycat features, the law ensures that schools and colleges in the states are so-called "gun free zones", which means that the only person with a gun will be the criminal psychopath who can round thirty people up and execute them at will.
As it happens, there was a bill in the Virginia assembly last year to allow students and staff who legally own guns to carry them on campus, but it was defeated. This was welcomed by one Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Virginia Tech who said:
"I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on campus."
Well, being defenceless might make you feel safe, right up until an armed lunatic decides he's going to go on the rampage.
Trying to keep guns out of the hands of criminals is a futile policy, it only ensures that criminals know their victims cannot fight back. The authorities tell us to rely on the police, but we know that they come along with their crime scene tape only after the crime has been committed. There are some truly evil people out there, and they do not obey the laws, the ones who do are the law abiding, who by definition are not the problem. Few people see this in the UK, because our state has been conditioning us for over 80 years that we do not have a right to own arms, and should not fight back if attacked. This policy reached its ridiculous apotheosis last year when a Home Office minister suggested that if you see a thug attacking an old lady in the street you should jump up and down and wave your arms in the air to distract him. Might make him die laughing I suppose. Enough said.

Re: How can this keep happening!!!
Thanks for the compliments! Yep, my points exactly! And you as a law abiding citizen wouldn't be alone owning a gun for you (and your family) protection and believe me A LOT of people, law abiding by the way, have guns in their homes and many of them AIN'T REGISTERED! And to add this, if you it IN SELF DEFENCE to protect your home most likely, thank god, they'll just take your gun away or maybe charge you with a misdemeanor with NO jail time. For some reason they seem to understand this until your child ACCIDENTLY shoots him or herself or somebody else.
