Hmm..we will all end up past our sell by date but Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music done some wicked tunes back in the day and they will always have my respect for that.

Amazing in his day.

It's like Sick Boy and Renton in Trainspotting discussing why geniuses lose it. The conclusion: "They grow old, they cannae hack it any more and they lose it".

Maybe so. Life changes, priorities change, motivations change.

I go with the theory that you don't lose that level of talent, eg. Bowie. I personally think that they've made their millions, don't give a toss any more about critical or commercial success and do what the hell they like musically.

Isn't that what we'll all like to have?

TOTAL creative freedom??

Ferry's new album of Dylan covers is meant to be good. I wouldn't pay ?45 to see him live this next couple of months though.

I don't really see the point with the Dylan covers .. it just harks back to when he did his covers albums in the 70s, Bowie did 'Pin Ups', Lennon did 'Rock n Roll'. Not the 'must have' albums for any of those three.

I read a quote attributed to Eno about the new Roxy album. Talking about his doubts about doing it he said something like 'I knew i'd be doing it for two days and talking about it for two years'. All the 'classic rock' is fairly dull in my opinion. Brilliant and influential in its day .. respect is due .. but there's lots of stuff 'out there' waiting to be found, old and new.

The Edge Glamour Models
Whats the point buying Dylan covers when you can buy the real thing...and I don't mean the 70s band!

Marvellous as he once was, the problem with Ferry these days is that much of what he does screams "I need the money", which is somewhat at odds with the louche, ageing playboy image he likes to portray. Didn't always buy your suits from M&S, did you, Bry?

"Let's do it..."
