How many physical networks are there? I always thought there were four - O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange and that any other one was a reseller of bandwidth physically carried by one of those four.
Now a salesman at Virgin Mobile tells me they have their own network.
Is that true?

Yes true!
Virgin have had their own network for years. There is also 3 pay & Tesco mobile, (not sure if it is Tescos network or they share someone elses).
