No Keith, I didn't have a wank whilst watching Dawn French. Sexually, I don't find her attractive, but I enjoy most of her body of work.
It's difficult to tell when someone is being ironic when the rest of their post is so full of bile and derision.

I nominate "Bread" as the most unfunny so-called comedy series ever inflicted on a license paying public.
But given where it was set I don't suppose many of its local viewers had a TV license......lol

The early dibleys were really funny ,as i have some on VHS.I didnt watch the xmas special but i heard it was good.

Took me ages to get into Watching in the 90s i ended up liking the programme.

I think many people liked it, because like Only Fools and Horses it is one of those sitcoms that is a bit more soap-like, though Only Fools goes a little further in that direction. As a consequence, there is a sense of time and story development in those sitcoms, and so it makes the characters a little bit more life-like, and most importantly for the channels: regular viewers get hooked because they don't want to miss out important events in the "life" of characters they have grown to care about.
For me, this does not work as I hate soaps.
I find most of the Vicar only mildly amusing, but "mildly amusing" tends to beat whatever else is on the other channels (I am still 4-channel terrestrial, and the reception is so lousy that Channel 4 sometimes goes AWOL for a couple of days). There were a few very good moments, e.g. the coming out of one of the characters, or the ABBA wedding speech.
I liked it least when it tried to be heart-warming, because I felt being manipulated and so it had the opposite effect on me.
