I used to work for a guy who could 'do anything'. Made a film about CB radio (remember that CB?) and he went and got a radio-ham ticket, did a film about dinghy sailing, he now takes yachts across the Atlantic, etc etc. Many years ago he told me he'd packed up smoking, and he bet I couldn't. I made a big gesture of chuking a nearly full packet of Silk Cut out the van window. Within three weeks he was back on the fags. 25 years later I still haven't had a cigarette, and whenever I feel the slightest bit tempted I remind myself there was something I could do he couldn't. That and the fact fag smoke makes me sick.

Mother-in-law is on this:

But it can give you suicidal thoughts. I've yet to see the downside!

May have been mentioned before but, this really works, as someone who has a long term partner with a 20 year habit, I would never have believed it, she has now been of the weed for 2 years, funny thing is you DONT have to go cold turkey, he activily encourages you to smoke your head off whilst reading the book, sadly he is dead now...lol, but not from smoking,

Niquitin chewing gum did it for me, got rid of the craving and will power did the rest, you must realy want to stop though. Tried hypnosis and accupuncture and they were a waste of time and money as they did nothing for me.

As an aside, if the court ruling goes in favour of being able to order from the net, where will Gordon get the billions he screws out of smokers on the pretext that he wants people to stop for health reasons?

I spent a lot of money buying a pack of fags smoking one or two and throwing the rest away, that went on for years. I think you have to find a way of dealing with the emotional and stress times in your life without lighting up, I learned that how you do that can be very specific to the individual.

A big turning point for me was when my best mate died of lung cancer at age 28 in 1995. I have not smoked since 2001.
