If you tax something you're going to deter people from doing it. How much tax is disproportionate to the problem is debatable. But you have to bear in mind that this problem is the most serious the human race has ever had to face. Not to sound melodramatic.

A week is a long time in politics and anything can happen, but I think the weather is equally hard to predict.

Actually, I DO think we should stop treating the earth like a punching bag just to make a few extra bucks to spend on crap. But I'm just saying - dont expect the earth's environment to follow some computer model's prediction. It may actually finish up warming up far more than anyone calculated. Or we may freeze afterall.
