I?ve downloaded several video clips from this site but when I try to play them (on Windows Media Player) it says ?Opening Media?, then ?Acquiring License?, and then I get the message:
?WARNING: ADULT ONLY ? YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 TO PLAY THIS VIDEO. The video you have downloaded is protected and require [sic] a free license to play.?
If I click on the link provided it takes me to a website where I?m invited to pay money. If I click cancel nothing happens. I just want to play the videos. So is emule just a con to get money from its users or has anyone found a way around paying for it?
At first I thought this might be due to a virus so I ran a Norton check on my system and removed the things it identified as possible risks but it?s still happening.
Any advice please!
Is emule a con?
Re: Is emule a con?
You have downloaded DRM protected content. You don't have a License hence you are asked to pay for one.
Is there a way round it? Not really. You need the license in the first place in order to strip it.

I see. Thanks Jacques. But nearly ALL the videos I've downloaded so far from emule have given me this message (about 10 out of 12 - and they're varied stuff, from different sources). So if this is typical of emule, WHY DO PEOPLE USE IT? There are other similar programs around that allow people to download stuff without asking for licenses? I've used eDonkey is the past and was never asked for a license once!

I have Limewire and had Winmix and had no problems. I thought about Emule but since you told us about that problem, I stayin away.
Re: Is emule a con?
This has nothing whatsoever to do with eMule.
You are downloading files from other users' computers, not from eMule, which is just a piece of software enabling like-minded individuals to connect and share stuff.
Simply avoid .wmv files like the plague - and that goes for all filesharing, whether it be LimeWire, KaZaA, eDonkey or whatever.

Didn't edonkey 'stop being' for some reason. I came home one day and found that it was no longer connectingto the network. when I tried going on to their Web page, all I got was a message saying: 'This Page Cannot Be Displayed'.

dont download WMV files! stick to AVI
It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Thanks
Thanks for the advice everyone. So maybe I was being harsh on emule and should just avoid the wmv files instead. When I have a chance I'll give emule another try.
Re: Thanks
have you tried to download via torrents instead of p2p? faster, safer and a hell of a lot better. !thumbsup!
