That's a good argument. There are two (main) things that suggest the major conspiracy theories are utter bollocks:
!) Too many people would be in the know, and definite proof would get out
2) The events involved go like clockwork

The point about people needing a belief in "order" is very sound and based on the same human insecurity that needs the "existence" of a god or gods.
I like the inference that, had the US Govt been involved 9/11 wouldn't have run smoothly and the point about the numbers involved is well made.
The US Govt may have known about the plot and let it happen to serve the neocon agenda. More likely, the conspiracy started with Rumsfeld's well documented assertion, within hours of the strikes, that Saddam was involved. The rest, as they say is history.
