Garbage, perhaps, but there's no satisfactory way it could have finished.

Since the Village was, in various episodes, in Poland or one of the Baltic states, off the coast of Africa and on mainland Britain, it was more of a metaphysical show with huge dabs of surrealism.

You could say exactly the same about the way Twin Peaks finished. Unsatisfying, yes; but it remains in the memory because of that.

Anyone remember, from 1989 I think, the TV adaptation of The Woman In Black? Translated from Susan Hill's book to the screen by top wordsmith Nigel Kneale, it scared the bejesus out of me. As far as I know, it was only shown the once on telly (ITV, I think), and isn't available in Britain on DVD.

i recall the last 3 eps were txd by ch4 about 1983 same time i got my 1st VCR so i taped those and the avengers together, last episode fallout was great i thought. olayphtangphtangbiscuitbarrell wrote:

And that's a major point you made , Steve; nothing like it before, very little like it since. Pretty sure if anyone looked up the words Cult television in the dictionary, a picture of The Prisoner would be there.

And also hugely influential on other TV and films, the episode 'AB and C' was a major influence on The Matrix (which also gave a nod to the episode in the film itself)
