Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy
Have to love the new BP ad, with some concerned young woman wondering why, if we can put a man on the moon, we can't produce a car that doesn't make a mess for the environment. Hello! Isn't this a company that, like virtually all oil firms, has spent decades squashing research that would remove reliance on petroleum? Biofuels-----don't make me laugh.

The ad does show that they're under pressure though. They're trying to tell us that biofuels are good, so thats 1 step in the right direction. Asking an oil company to admit that biofuels are a decent alternative 20 years ago, would have had them choking with laughter. People -ever so slowly- are starting to care, and a few oil companies are responding now.
I don't know much about biofuels myself but if we can grow wheat for fuel then since we produce too much wheat annually anyway, a lot of surplus can be used up. More wheat/barley/whatever means less carbon in the atmosphere which is good. 1: because we're not pumping more carbon up there, and 2: while growing wheat, it's absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.
If this thing kicks off, then I just hope natives in Africa, South America, SE Asia don't start felling more rainforests to make room for extra 'wheat farms'.
That would be just as big a tragedy as global warming is now, and will be devastating to millions of animal & plant life.

First things first. You may not give a fuck about the world, but did you find time in the end to write to your local council about the "African issues" that upset you so much recently?
