I'm not saying that the police don't make mistakes. I'd even agree with you that Blair & Co. are a bunch of corrupt, incompetent fools. There are no doubt a few "bad apples" in the police force as well.
To claim as you're doing though that the police are nothing more than a bunch of Orwellian thugs, that there's no terrorist threat and that it's all just a big conspiracy by the politicians is just plain daft.
Yes, they probably (mis)use the situation to a degree as an excuse to push forward their own agendas, but the threat exists, and if it takes a few more CCTV cameras, longer check-in times at airports, a few doors being kicked in from time to time and more people being stopped and searched as a precaution (even if nothing's found), I'll take that over mass murder any day of the week.
We just need to find the right balance between civil liberties and security, and maybe that hasn't happened yet.
