Marty, I think when we talk about 'going off the rails' we're mainly refering to problems affecting how good they are on the pitch. Gazza's problems affected his career and he missed the word cup 98 because of it (though I still think he shoulda gone anyway). Rooney's had problems outside football but he keeps getting better & better!
P.s You don't have to be a Man Utd fan to be impressed with Rooney! (Sheff Wed fan !hmmm!)

b*stard! i live in manchester and i've supported them all my life. it's a myth that because man u have a wide following then nobody in manchester supports them. the fact is, there are many more man u fans in manchester than there are city fans. clubs like chelsea, arsenal, liverpool etc just don't have that wider network of fans!
