Anyone see the C4 documentary last night, where an ex-CID officer rejoined the Leicester force and filmed what she saw?
I was totally shocked. Racism and sexism go with the territory, but leaving your colleagues on the streets with no back-up while you play cards all night, ignoring emergency calls, driving past members of the public in urgent need of help, playing hide-and-seek in three squad cars all night with your mates, and playing cricket in the custody area when a prisoner is waiting to be processed, I found unbelievable. No pride in what they do, lazy, cowardly, corrupt, and no supervision of any sort. They were an absolute disgrace.
Every man filmed in that doc, indulging in that behaviour, should be dishonourably discharged, if there's such a thing in the Police, and it should come down from on-high that similar behaviour will result in instant dismissal. Instead there'll be some mealy-mouthed enquiry and 'disciplinary action' taken against those found guilty. You've got to ask though, where were the senior officers who should have been supervising these arseholes?
I'm a firm supporter of the Police, despite their obvious and many imperfections, but this was a wake-up call to the calibre of person that now passes himself off as a police officer. My Grandad was a copper in Manchester, so I know that rules get bent, but NEVER would he or any of his oppos have let one another down, or not done their best to help someone who needed help. I can't help feeling this is as much a reflection of what our society's become, as of the Police. It made me sick to watch it.
Leicester cop scandal
Re: Leicester cop scandal
You ask people in any town about what happens when they report a gang of five or more to the police, and quite often they'll say it took them 45 minutes to get there---by which time the gang has gone. It's not uncommon for the boys and girls in blue to sit in a side street waiting for the gang to disappear before rolling up.
I'm damned sure I wouldn't risk getting a kicking, but unfortunately they've signed up knowing there is that possibility every time they get a call.

You could make a cardinal wolf whistle, Louise !queen!
Any negative -ism you can name, you will find it in the police service, and the armed forces. The low conviction rate for rape allegations says a great deal about how the law feels about it. And that means the prosecution services as well as the police. Maye it is time that the law was changed, since making it assault on the person is easier to prove than rape.

Re: Leicester cop scandal
The low conviction rate for rape does not prove anything of the kind. Rape, particularly when both parties are well known to one another and especially if they have had previous sexual relations, is awfully difficult to prove beyond reasonable doubt. The statistic we never hear is what the conviction rate is for rapes where the woman is attacked by a stranger and there is no question regarding the lack of consent. It is highly probable that the conviction rate in these types of offences is little different from other serious offences.
Re: Leicester cop scandal
You may well be right, David. If so, I apologise for jumping to unsubstantiated conclusions. I do believe, however, that rape is not treated with the seriousness it deserves.

When all said and done, it is just putting something where it was intended to go, isn't it?
I mean, is it really that much worse than nicking someone's parking space?
Just asking, that's all.

Re: Leicester cop scandal
I believe that rape is treated seriously, the problem the police and CPS face is that there is often great doubt about whether at the time of intercourse there was consent. Because the prosecution have to prove that the intercourse was without consent investigative procedure can, perhaps, give the impression that there is a lack of sympathy. I know women's group recoil in horror at the suggestion but I do think rape needs to be categorized like other assaults.

If it was your wife, daughter, sister or mother who was a victim, you'd be laughing on the other side of your face, chum.
