Transfer VHS to computer

Post by Jock Strap »

I have an amateur adult video I made a few years back and I want to transfer it onto my computer's hard drive so I can upload it to my website. Is there a way of doing this direct or will I have to do it via DVD?

ie.
VHS-DVD-HD
or just
VHS-HD

Appreciate any advice......

Pick a TV In Card on ebay for about ?6 and it will usually have an analog in port.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Yep thats about the only way to get it done but I ran Bills stall last night at Dunstall Computer Market and the bloke next door was selling TV cards for as much as ?4 so you could then spend the other ?2 on sweets to chew whilst its rendering rather than take the risk of get efuked get down to your local computer fair

A PC / USB capture card / module will certainly work but quality, or rather lack of, is an issue. Cheaper ones tend to be low resolution.

About 18 months ago just after I updated my PC with a DVD writer while decent DVD recorders were still ?300+.
I read up on PC MPEG capture cards and bought off eBay one of the better ones.
However on poorer tapes in particular it tended to freeze or skip frames plus the sound & picture went out of sync.
Hence now use DVD recorder recording to a RW disc then use PC to compile DVD for burning on PC drive.
Results are superior and far less hassle.

Saying as you put it that way....I think I'll invest in a DVD recorder.

They are as cheap as ?89 nowadays from Sainsburys or ASDA, BUT record DVDR+ as opposed to the more popular DVDR-

Don't want to put you off but I tried this before DVD recorders came down in price with some old music clips I wanted to put onto a pop quiz I was working on and the analogue to digital feed wasn't very good. Some clips the sound could hardly be heard and others were sticking or the sound to vision was mistimed. Also I had to remove a load of work I'd saved on my PC as it kept crashing because it took too much space up. Invest in a decent DVD recorder with a hard drive. Try Richer Sounds, they've got some excellent deals on these.

Yep - and you gets what you pay for.
Pay out for a Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony etc and you will be rewarded in the picture quality.

The quality does not depend on if discs are + or - but rather on the machine, and of course how many hours you try to fit on a disc.

Remember too mainstream commercial releases can be 4 hours on a dual-layer 8.5GB disc but home recorders are single layer with 4.7GB maximum so lower quality/resolution.
Hence best stick to around 2hour per disc, although I have had very respectable results from VHS at 3 hour setting on my Pioneer.
