Chi gweld ..............................Rudwin sharad sesneig. The main problem is the age old sittuation of money and in particualr TAX. Without the English tax payer the welsh and scotts would not have enough money to wipe their fairy arses with the toilet paper kindly supplied there by.
Plus your magnificent assemblies would be no more than a thought in the mind of a bad temeperd british hateing funny talking lunatic and so the question is why go there on holiday but the answer is I don't?
Now there may be those who will get upset with my facts but to those all I have to say is, please don't get me mixed up with someone giving a fuck?

I agree. I'm always baffled when I hear Scots moaning about English 'opression'..and they all seem to be under the misaprehension they've at some point been colonised? when?
When the whole of Europe, includin modern day England, was under Roman domination, the Scots stayed independent. The Romans even built a wall to keep them away! England never conquered Scotland. Scotland defeated England at Bannockburn. When the two countries finally were joined in Union in 1603 it was the Scottish King James VI occupying the vacant throne of England...not the other way round..so didn;t they colonise the English if anything? As has been rightly pointed out ever since the union they've done pretty well, they recieve far more taxes then English people, the excess money they get back in tax revenue far outsrips the amount of North sea oil they get from England...they've always been well represented in parliament. They've given the world wonders such as scotch, television, penicllin...
You'd think they'd be happy wouldn't you. Are they f..... I blame the cold weather..always condusive to moaning and grumbling .

There's a lot more to it than that, Richas. The worst thing that could have happened to Scotland would have been a victory for the Jacobites in the 1745 uprising. There were as many Scots on the government side as there were in Prince Charlie's army at Culloden. Victory for "the Scots" would have dragged the lowlands and central belt back into the middle ages---not to mention that they would have taken much of England as well.
There are perceived injustices. Much of Britain seems to centre on what the south-east wants---but if we were independent, we'd just complain about Glasgow or Edinburgh. Oh, and to address a point made, no Scottish MP should be voting on matters that do not affect Scotland. Unfortunately, the Government looks upon its Scottish representatives as lobby fodder---and so our MPs help force through legislation that won't affect us since education and health and so on are devolved matters. None of our Labour MPs seems to have the backbone to say no.
Incidentally, the little Englander attitude of some of those who posted here is a reason why so many Scots, Welsh and Irish claim to hate the English. But why should the LEs, or the Celts who badmouth them, bother to think when they can use a sweeping generalisation and dismiss an entire nation?
Like it or not, we share this island and its near neighbour, and we're linked.

It means having cars nearly as good as the Italians, women vastly inferior to the Hungarians, rock'n'roll bands pretty much on a par with the Americans and a better sense of humour than everybody else.
Re: what does british mean?
I agree with diplodocus and Richas. Since when have the Welsh and Scottish ever had a raw deal? I remember when Ryan Giggs said he was going to vote yes for a Welsh Assembly because he was fed up with the Welsh being treated as second-class citizens. Excuse me, since when? And, this is coming from a player who has lived in England most of his life (and very happy to do so), earning 50+ grand a week and hardly ever plays for Wales in a friendly. If that's second class treatment well....
Name me a top Welsh or Scottish footballer NOT happy to live and work and enjoy all the comforts of living in England as a Brit.
I live in Cardiff and there was a guy who lived below me (a Welsh Nationalist), smacked of double standards ("I'm not British, I'm Welsh!!"), didn't speak a word of his own language and was happy to have a British passport and go abroad to work and holiday with all the benefits of being British.

How, pray, can one hope to describe an entire nation other than by generalisation?.

Re: what does british mean?
Wales and Ireland I can accept have had a fairly raw deal from England, they've both been conquered by us. Scotland on the other hand I feel has always held itself very well next to England, and though we are clearly far better at football than them, they still hav absolutely no reason to feel inferior, bitter or jealous IMHO. They are far more popular abroad too...you never see a 'scottish' master villian in a hollywood movie do you

This is why I find the subject of racism a non starter, especially when the english (not every one mind) hate the irish and the scottish and vice versa. Its crazy. Everyone really hates everyone. Its not about black, white or asian really. We're all just sick...Well, most of us anyway.
I always thought that the word British indicated United Kingdom which is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland....For some reason, I tink Southern Ireland isn't considered British, like they were a totally different country unto themselves...Anyone care to educate me?

Certainly - 'I tink' should be written 'oi tink'.
