Car Dealerships

Post by Ace »

I went to buy a new car today, my Fiesta is playing up, so went to Rover.
Its been awhile since I could afford a new car, but fuck, its changed.
Gone are the days where the salesman got you a cuppa as he rattles away about the model you are buying, and how you could haggle the price down and got free tax and a tank of petrol.
He looked at my newly cleaned Fiesta like it really was a piece of shit and knocked off a poxy ?300, despite mine having 3 months tax and 9 months MOT.
Cheeky bastard gave the impression he was REALLY doiung me a favour. I really wanted to prang it on the test drive, I really did, but as I desperately want it, had to fight my urges.
Worse is, I can't have it till January as it needs a full service and the Xmas holidays and the backlog of work means its not ready till then.
Im tempted to superglue all the locks in a months time, that will piss him off as much as I was today

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

Trouble is, Ace, dealers don't want to know trade-ins anymore, cars are worth peanuts.. You can go to auction and get a car, such as a 10 yr old Mondeo for ?100, and one that's in good enough condition to last years. 6 Year old Laguna's are going for the ?500 mark, makes me wonder why people bother buying new or nearly new

Tell me about it RetroDon, I used to remember some great used cars on Dealership forecourts, nowadays, they want you to see their new models and sod the old shit.
When I brought a 'new' used Peugeot 309 in 1988, they took ?900 off part exchange for a clapped out Sunbeam.....a FUCKING TALBOT SUNBEAM!!!! with 1 weeks MOT, and you really felt you got a service.
Todays car salesmen? I've shit 'em.....bring back the Arfur Daley 'characters'

I was offered ?500 for an old Escort a few years ago - a derisory offor so I kept it. Then when it got stoled and written off the insurance gave me ?1900, quite a big difference.

Different kettle of fish Ace with BMW,s, I bought a new one last year, and fair enough, it cost a lot more than a Rover, but the service is second to none, they do everything but wipe your arse, free del etc, but I picked mine up, sat in a comfy lounge watching tele, drinking coffee, whilst they sweated to get it ready, they had taxed it, and there was a bottle of good red wine on the passenger seat!, also when it is service time, they deliver the same car for me to drive, whilst they take it away to sort it!
But! I do remember the days well, when I drove fords etc, and some cunt would come out to the forecourt to laugh openly at your trade in!, I remember it bieng almost like a battle of wits trying to get anything for it!

As someone who has a good insight to the car trade the words "trade-in" are is now getting very passe.

Sell privately and haggle like fuck. According to a survey in Telegraph Motoring 2 weeks ago there is only one mainstream car where you cannot get a discount anywhere. That is the truly heinous "new" Mini, awful outside, fashion statement interior and no boot! Pity cos it handles like a bloody go kart!

I'll second that Liz. Since I've had the M3 Cab I've been very impressed with the efficiency and enthusiasm of BMW customer service - in stark contrast to those tossers down the road at Mercedes, who never managed to fully rectify a fuel injection fault on my previous AMG C36, and didn't seem all that concerned at the apparent failure of Teutonic engineering and the consequent loss of face.

Yep, they know how to treat top punters at BMW - it's been no problem for them to send a technician out to deal with any minor faults on my Beemer (within the hour) and on the occasions I've booked my motor in for a service they've lent me a BMW off the forecourt (a demo car) to tool about in while my motor was being tossed off. Excellent.
