I'm thinking about it but was a bit pissed off at the way they have spun out the whole process. A couple of years ago I got fed up with what seemed like the eternal wait for a DVD and succumbed to buying the video trilogy boxed set. Now they finally bring it out I'm wondering if it's worth it or will they bring out something even bigger and better next year of after tha last movie.

Do you know if the DVD release is the digitally remastered version with the computer animated Jabba the Hut and special effects etc? - that might persuade me.

Same thing seems to be happening with Blade Runner btw - I've been looking for this in the shops on DVD but at the moment, and for some months now, its been impossible to even buy the video first hand. They must be building up to something but I hope its soon - my old video taped off the telly is on it's last legs.

As far as I'M concerned, you can stick this up yer arse!! Never been a fan of it, but stringing it out every 2 or so years with 'exclusive footage' Limited Edition box sets etc means Lucas has been poncing from fans for years. He is a slag and a cunt for that!!

At least London Calling by The Clash has been re-released with a DVD and a bonus CD. I'd like to see Lucas do that........which he probably will next year so mugs will buy it!!

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I've met the man on the street............and he's a cunt

It has to be said Ace that this is a huge event for SW fans, I'm not a sci fi fan, never seen a star trek movie or epiosde, the only other sci fi movies in my dvd collection is the directors cut of blade runner, and alien & aliens, the first ever movie I bought on dvd, but I love star wars, the only other version of episodes 4 - 6 I own was a video box set, the trilogy on DVD looks like a brand new film quality & sound wise, and some fantastic features as well, and at ?28 from play.com, a bargain consdering the attention to detail that has gone into this including a fascinating & candid audio commentary from pricess Leia herself Carrie Fisher, just like lord of the ringers there will surely be another box set once the final prequel is released next year, for me, I'm sitting here, cold Grolschs in me mini fridge, halfway through empire, remembering memories of standing in line at southend odeon, scared as fuck of lord vader, and having a whale of a time

Lucas said he'd never release them until the second trilogy was finished (eps. 1-3). Seems he's changed his mind, which is quite out of character. Couldn't be because takings for ep.2 were way down and he needs to drum up interest for ep.3 next year? or that we're slowly being introduced to new, higher definition DVD which will doubtless mean more pithy twiddling of the original trilogy (ker-ching!), could it?

Ace WTF are you on about comparing StarWars with the Clash?

30 quid for a box set with loads of extras seems cracking value to me.

Star Wars biggest thing to hit the 70's and totally change sci fi films or The Clash who copied plenty of other bands and comprised of private school, comb over, middle class, boring, Buzzcocks wannabes. Hmmm keep on dreaming mate.

Care to have a internet pint on which will sell the most?

Stella please!

I got the the dvds, I must say i was very impressed with the "Empire of dreams" documentry, that was brilliant, it goes to show how he struggled to make the first Star Wars movie, with Fox trying to rush him to bring it out in 77. Some intreresting stuff on it. A lot of tributes coming from some of the other film makers on how this movie changed the way they make movies in genral. Theres a lot of good stuff on the 4th disk with more documentrys including a look at "The Return of Darth Vader" showing making of footage from Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith. I was so much hoping they would add some of the deleted scenes featured on the cd roms, and also the orignal making of documentrys which were released on video like "From Star Wars to Jedi: the making of a saga" perhaps they will bring out an ultimate edition of this when they do re-release this again as a 6 part box set - episodes 1-6. I think its a bit harsh to say that george Lucas wants to cash in on the dvds, it was the fans that wanted it more, he was willing to wait until the 6th movie was made. The price of the dvds is pretty good value for money at ?29.99 in most shops.
The changes on the DVDs & Special Edition look like this:

So the DVD's ARE based on the 1997 special editions with the more modern CG elements but with some further refinements - right?
