Hold that front page - this just in: some Americans are fat and stupid.

Of course, nobody's ever seen a fat Welshman, Scotsman, Irishman, New Zealander, Austrian, etc.

Yeah, but do they write books about their fellow countrymen?

Correction, I should have asked "But are they written about by a fellow countryman?
And if you read the reviews it isn't just about obesity.

There are a load of dull books knocking Americans at the moment, it's very tedious and hopefully this trend will be over soon. I've had the good fortune to travel extensively in North America and have never met such good-natured people as those I met in Texas, California, New York, Montana and so on.

I know it's the height of bad taste in the current climate of political bullshit but I love America, the incredible scenery in Montana, the fascinating cities such as San Francisco and New York, the view of the Manhattan skyline from Long Island at night, the coastline of California...the examples of why America is such a great place to visit are endless.

I did read the Amazon reviews.

Quoting stats for the sales of pink flamingos for lawns doesn't seem a particularly scientific way of assessing the stupidity of Americans.

Wonder how many garden gnomes are sold in the UK each year?

It's quite a good indicator that they have too much money, though.
The same applies for gnomes, of course.....
