a pal who works with me has paid his medical insurance set up by the company we work for for approx 30 years and never made any big claims. His wife was diagnosed with cancer this year and after a couple of scans and visits to the consultant the insurance company cancelled the policy saying it was now ' a chronic ongoing illness' and so couldn't be covered as they couldn't estimate total treatment costs.
What an absolute bunch of total cunts, after 30 years of being payed they treat them like this, I really don't know how some people do these jobs and sleep at night

I recently took out a policy, nothing big, and had to jump through several hoops for it---then was well pleased by a line saying that the insurer was not liable if I was to cop it due to an act of war, declared or undeclared.
Sounds like Al-Qaida has just replaced "act of God" in the cop-out stakes.

Sounds like a cop out of mammoth proportions but thats how Insurance Companies keep their bottom line healthy-fine print
You really need a lawyer to explain the terms & conditions before signing anything.I bet most of the employees don't have a clue either which is exactly how the insurance companies like it...ignorance on both sides of the fence makes for good profits
cheers

very true, I still can't get my head around how people can put a few quid over the chance of saving a life. Her cancer, she has been told is incurable and malignant, so any insurance money will be for last chance treatment, which may work or not. It's not as if this will bankrupt the insurance company. Surely any person/company can see this...maybe not I dunno, maybe i'm naive and money is more important in this poor world we live in
One good thing though, she has been accepted on a research project at Liverpool uni for some new gene therapy treatment (quite interesting stuff for us sad science geeky people)

It's nauseating that companies can get away with this kind of thing. And, as has already been pointed out, how can the person responsible for making such decisions live with themselves, let alone sleep at night.

totally true, he went through the terms after this, in a 45 page book there are two lines which enable them to do this, but it's a good price for a policy so everyone will sign up for it. I guess this will be a similar thing for most policies
