Has anyone else seen this absolute marvel from Hideo (Ringu) Nakata? It's more of an emotive ghost story in the Don't Look Now vein than his previous horrors, and like that film has a chilling suprise ending that's as moving as it is disturbing. It is also the sort of film you could watch without sound or subtitle, such is the clarity and simplicity of its handling.
Predictably, Dark Water is presently undergoing a Hollywood remake - hopefully it will avoid the pedantic, overwrought, kiddy-fied approach Ringu received with The Ring, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it (confusingly, Nakata is directing The Ring sequel). See it now so you can look clever when the big 'ole yankee mess arrives.
You should be able to find it in Blockbusters somewhere among eight million copies of Pirates of the Carribean.
