I was thinking more of CID just being armed ad hoc, say if they were going up against known villains, rather than as a routine.

I'm glad they've taken my advice, then.
My next tip, is for them always to be very nice to civilians called JJ.
Oh, and that using a siren does not absolve them from obeying the provisions of the Highway Code: it is merely supposed to alert other road-users to make way for them if possible, not for them to drive like lunatics at 2000 mph on the wrong side of the road- if they want juvenile thrills and spills, they can join the NYPD, or CHiPs.

Anywhatever, they seem to have collared someone for the killing.
If only they were as effective with burglaries.........
