Re: Low carb diets..anyone buyng this theory?

Be still, my (barely-)beating heart......
Diet? Eat less, exercise more. Simple, but unfortunately requiring self-discipline, which is most people's problem.

Any thing that preaches exclusion(even fat) is silly
The biggest mistake most people make is eating their biggest meal at the end of the day instead of the start or middle
Too much Dairy or Grains is as bad as too much Junkfood IMHO
Vegetables & Fruits are the bees knees
For the record I eat everything in Moderation
I just make sure any Carbs are consumed in my Breakfast or Lunch
and my last meal of the day is light.Works for me
It seems to me all these diets don't really stack up to anything worthwhile without the exercise component
cheers

All true: but the 'bad' stuff is, like everything else, only truly bad if indulged in to excess.

Given the evolution of hominids, a 'natural' diet would be one that consisted of about a dozen quite small meals a day. Makes sense too, in giving the system time to deal completely with one lot before starting another....

There was a prog on Channel 4 a couple of weeks ago. The basics are that carbs are the easiest way of getting energy to your body, if you don't feed it carbs it will burn your fat stocks. The Atkins diet seems to work if you want to lose fat quick, but not a long term solution.

You need all major food groups long-term for the essential amino acids and the like.
There's some truth in the low-carb theory- but certain 'structural' fat stores won't be used even in the absence of adequate carb intake. A better strategy is largely to eliminate de novo fat-intake, which then stimulates use of the fat resources available in storage.
