Orwell had a point: I see class as just another manifestation of the human desire to belong by excluding others. See Swift's Bigendians, for example.
The major change I've seen over the last decade is the relative increase in youth's apparent devotion to frivolity- or I could just be getting old.......

no handicap involved. I took 69 (ooh-er!) shots to go round the course.
my previous best was 3 over par.

Giles, you don't sound like you've ever stepped onto a course so, no offense, but how would you know whether its good excercise or not?
I'm not saying a round of golf is like running a marathon, but an average roung lasts around 3 1/2 hours, involves about a 3 or 4 mile walk with a heavy bag of clubs on your back, very few course are completely flat, the last 6 holes at my local course all involve fairly steep uphill climbs, by the time your done you do feel quite done in. During the summer i was playing 4 or 5 rounds a week. I would call all that quite good excercise.

I have no idea where Millbank is i'm afraid & am quite happy working in Garden Maintenance thanks.
I was mearly stating my point of view, I didn't mean that Rugby is exclusivly a private school game only that some people see it that way. I went to a state school & we had a great rugby team there.
I stand by my point about this being a great country, I am working class but that doesn't stop me recognising the good things the middle & upper classes do.
My main point though wasn't about rugby but more about life. Its a simple one really, we should all just get along!!
Thats it, thats all I was saying.
EJ.
