Hoddle the Scapegoat-where to now Spurs

Post by Deuce Bigolo »

To see an England Great get the push so early in the season makes me puke. You might as well sack him before kick off

I don't see Newcastle sacking Bobby Robson

Hoddle proved at Southampton that he was a Decent manager

Maybe his one indigression about disabld people was his undoing
Lost the respect and aura that he had built up to that point maybe

Even given that he still proved at Southampton that he was tactically sound and able to motivate his players to get a result home or away

I don't support Tottenham but I just feel sadness when I see good managers getting shafted. You sign a manager it should be for the season
just like a player.

To me there is more wrong at Tottenham than just Hoddle
Time to clear all the dead wood IMO

cheers

Sorry Buttsie, but I think you'll find that most people disagree with you on this.

Hoddle's jacket has been on the proverbial "shaky peg" since the start of the season. According to some commentators he only started this season because Levy backed him and wanted to see if he could improve things.

A list as long as your arm of ex Spurs and Southampton players have been calling his man management skills into question. Even David Beckham alluded to it when asked about his time as England manager. OK you may expect a degree of that from disgruntled players who have left the club, but just about everyone who's left Spurs has had little of a positive nature to say about him. It has been said that he didn't even speak to some of his players.

Check this out

He was a great player, but I don't think he is even an average manager.

My point wasn't really about really about Hoddle but the stupidity of Management.....Tottenhams problem goes far deeper than Hoddle
and until the idiots at the top realise that they are the problem this club will always underachieve

Everybody would say Bobby Robson has Great Man Management Skills
and yet Newcastle has dropped out of Europe, hasn't won a game and is sitting second bottom...no signs of management sacking him is there
Thats called good management...sure he has the track record but knee jerk reactions don't usually get results

Tottenham's real problem is the recent success for Arsenal (not looking so good this season; Janey's back door hinges must be a bit shaky just now) and the huge spending of Chelsea having such an immediate and positive effect. Another London club, West Ham, dumped their manager even earlier after a poor start in a lower division. Hoddle squandered ?13 million on three players, but didn't do anything to shore up the dodgy defence and anonymous midfield. Boards will forgive just about anything except wasting money.

What is a shame is that the next bloke in the job will have to make do with what's already there and hasn't been producing: that's a real test of management skills.

Hoddle---great player, poor manager, dodgy human being with his views on reincarnation and disablement.

Maybe thre London rivals success is a factor

I don't buy the money angle

When was the last time Tottenham won a trophy? 198?

Probably more so is the form of Teddy Sherringham for Portsmouth who
Hoddle let go...5 goals in 5 matches Maybe!!!!

I think also you have to take into account what a terrible meaningless end to the season Tottenham had last season, then Hoddle was given millions to spend and so far no better results, let?s face it with the team they have they should be well up the league ... so Hoddle had to go.
also with regard to the comparison you draw with Bobby Robson Buttsie, you also must take into account the season Newcastle had last year, if Newcastle had a poor season last year BB would be out the door. Every manager has or will at some time be sacked and that is a fact.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

He's in a long tradition of great players who made lousy managers.
It seems second-raters make the best coaches.

The bookies favorite to take over the job is Martin O'Niell.......somehow I think NOT!! Would take an awful lot to get him to leave Celtic.

Just as we said earlier if a Manager had a bad season last year then they should be sacked in the off season not 6 games in to a new season-Stupid Management IMO

I agree about the premise of runs on the board in previous seasons counting for extra time for a manager to turn it around.A bad example by any ones standards

What did you say about generalising again?

Why we expect great players to make great managers is beyond me
Man Management has little to do with Football Skills

All comes down to who they buy & sell in many ways
