Welcome to the right side Steve56

I sometimes wonder wether popular music has leeched into our psyche with the way we talk about great songs and not their albums

You take Deep Purple In Rock or Machine Head
Its the less well known songs that make the albums Great

I've long been a follower of Whitesnake-never knew Coverdale was a former Deep Purple lead Singer until I started frequenting this forum
Their 1979 album Ready & Willing is awesome....coverdales voice especially in the slow songs is more akin to an instrument-brilliant

Rainbow goes without saying...Rictchie Blackmore like Good King John
stringing up every sort of player known to man before achieving the desired sound...he still didn't progress past Deep Purple IMO-probably couldn't find a decent player like Jon Lord

Episode Six? Who ?

Fool for Your Loving was one of their few top twenty hits

A brillant version is on their live album in the heart of the city(from my memory-we all know how good that is) as is Love Hunter

Wine,Women & Song was my favourite

It's when the lead violinist kicks over the percussion section, then shatters his instrument (ouch) over his music stand.

Of course, like most forms of music it has evolved: see The London Symphony Orchestra's latest release "Mutha---LSO's Best Of Gangsta Rap."

I'm not a great fan of Deep Purple,

I've always prefered Black Sabbath but having said that Deep Purple are 200 times better than most of the dross that is released now.
