Not stealing. If you'd read correctly, I use torrents only to check out that something is what it should be, if it is then I buy it or pay for it legitimately, if it isn't then I don't want it. I consider it to be a tool to enable me to see before I buy, to ensure I don't get ripped off. All the DVD's I have, all the content on my hard drives, it has all been paid for.

It's like when I go to buy ice-cream, I got fed up with being scammed by tubs of ice-cream that showed a picture of white ice-cream only to discover on getting home that it was actually yellow, so I now open the lid to check before I put one in the trolley.

Research, you call it.

I have never stolen anything in my life and never will. I always pay to get any material legally. I just got fed up with being ripped off, spending my hard earned money on DVD's that turned out to be nothing like I expected, so I now seek to view before I buy to ensure that I don't get ripped off.

let's ignore the fact that that there are hundreds of review sites online more often than not with pictures from reviewed movies. however, at least one of the big store chains, pulse and cocktails, will let you preview a dvd in the shop before you buy. if you're going to download why not just join sites with content you know your going to enjoy and stop arsing about with torrents? I know i've said it before somewhere but i wouldn't know a torrent if it knocked on the front door.

Yes it is stealing. You can dress it up however you like, but at the end of the day, you are obtaining material illegally to view for free. Does the producer of the movie you download receive any money for his work? No he doesn't. Why do you think the movie and music industries are trying so bad to get torrent sites shut down? Because it's video/music piracy.

So another poster said, most websites preview their content so you have an idea at what you are buying. You are trying to justify your thefts which is pathetic

Raymond maybe in that category of people that do download stuff and if he likes it, actually pays for it.

I know thats hard to understand but that kind of customer does exist.

Ive done it with american tv shows and movies for the same reason. It is stealing but I dont consider myself a thief when I own all the box sets for shows usually on US format before it got popular in the UK

Lets not lie about this. A lot of people do it. I've admitted it in a room full of my peers who gasped and tutted in disgust. They are right to but like porn its not gonna stop people using it if its there and thats my point.

We are living in a freeload / download culture and no amount of shaming people will change that. Al we can rely on is the decent civic minded folk who do pay to help keep us producing but the problem is going to get worse.

If anything Raymond has highlighted a problem with this trend towards downloading and to me his admission should educate us how we should deal with this problem.

Technology is moving forward, not backward and its going to get a lot worse. I cant see it ever getting better so the future is going to be about how to monetise from the technology.

The cinema and television industries have responded by upping the ante with event shows and movies. 2015 is going to be the greatest year in Hollywood history for all the block busters coming out. Its also going to spell the end for a few studios because not enough people can afford to see all the films coming out next year.

This will l have a knock on effect with porn that I can already see now and more people will rely on the net for free downloads than ever next year and to twist the knife in and break it off a bit more, censorship, regulation and filtering is the proverbial asteroid that will finish a business that is already in a bad state this year.

Exactly. One of the great things about porn is the variety. If there is something you don't like then there will almost certainly be something out there that 'does it' for you.

By the way, you have beautiful feet Samantha. Personally, I feel you wear shoes far too often. !wink!

I sympathise with producers and performers but I think the only way to tackle the problem is to lower prices.

It has always gone on, way before the internet and torrents, like when at school and someone wanted 3 or 4 albums one month but only had enough pocket money for one so a few mates would each buy a different album and pass them around so everyone could put it onto a C60 tape, you also had people recording songs off the radio.

People only have a certain amount of spare cash so at ?15 or ?20 for a DVD they have to make a choice which title(s) to buy, and when you pay that sort of price and it turns out to be not what you'd expected then you feel ripped off. If a DVD is only a fiver then a customer can not only afford more of the titles he/she wants to buy but you don't mind taking a punt at that price so if it turns out to be crap it's not such a big deal.

I know producers will say production and distribution costs dictate the selling price to some degree, but the actual cost of the disc and artwork isn't much so I would think it better to sell more product for less, if the product is less expensive it should sell in much greater quantity.

I tried my hand at distribution over 5 years ago

You couldnt possibly sell for less than the unit cost of ?3.50 to ?5 it ended up being back then. When I started it was about ?6 or ?7

When youre selling at a lower unit cost and the return on sale or returns went from 30 to 90 days the market just dropped dead and when youre competing with mass produced disks coming into the UK for about a ?1 it was becoming harder to compete. Shops didnt care about quality. They cared about profit

Its the shops that should be lowering their prices but wait...Most of the shops had to stump up 2k a week on rent and the licensed shops were stiffed even more on top of the rent for licenses to sell porn at 30k per shop

The kind of problems distributor faced where scams like returns that were scratched or damaged after they were clearly sold and probably exchanged for half price which means the shop earned ?30 (or even more) from the sale before returning it as a damaged disc.

Whats worse, you know this was what they were doing because they would order the quota of the sale agreement by getting as many titles in the catalogue with only on or tow units of the same title.

There were a few good shops that did business honorably but the profit margins weren't worth the effort as not enough money as made to justify new releases in the end. The websites were doing pretty good back then and this was a global problem recognised by even americans who stopped producing DVDS.

The only companies I know making solid sales are brand names that owned their own licensed sex shops and theres a very good reason why those DVDs are priced at ?20

DVDs are just bought to rip and use for filesharing. Most often released the same day as the DVD release date.

I could also talk about companies that scammed their clients by producing more units and fiddling the sales to say they havent made any money when in fact they have on sales that weret accounted for

Sorry, what was that you suggested about selling cheaper to make more sales? !laugh!
