Why not just keep the site up permanently without updating it? Then you could still be making money from the site. As long as you make it clear to people when they join that the site isn't updated. They just pay a one-off fee to join. All you would then have to do is pay for the hosting and maybe answer a few e-mails now and then, but the site should still make you money. That's what I did with some of my old sites and it worked very well.
