quote "If you leave outside London, so what, you just have to plan as models in London have to to get a test here.

Can we stop with all this "I can't because" or "I don't live in London" there are clinics all over the place, yes some are better than others, but have you told them WHY you need the test and the certificate?" quote

I have told my local clinic why I need the certificate and I STILL get a loud NO from them regarding certification. I have to use devious methods of visiting two different clinics 40 miles apart alternately so that each one thinks I am only asking to be tested every six months! I also agree with their disapproval because why should I take advantage of free testing under the NHS? My alternative is to travel to London which I just cannot afford to do. The testing alone would not be a problem but when you add the train fare and other expenses it doubles the cost.

While I am all for safeguards in the industry, like Jack I feel that before changing the status quo a suitable infrastructure should be set up to deal with the problem. It is obviously much easier for models who do live in London, although even there I think there will be a problem with getting the appointments in time.

So it looks as if I will be withdrawing from the professional scene because I am certainly not going to work at a loss! It will be interesting to see what sort of impact these proposals will have on the porn scene in relation to the numbers of male and female models available and the fees demanded.

Hi Libby,

Ok I understand what you are saying however I think that photograpghers and proudcers are going to have to accept that models will/may put thier prices up to cover travel and HIV test costs on top of thier normal rates untill their is such an organisation that does do this for all us models all over the uk. Were abouts are you???? is thier not another model near you that you can maybe travle down together to try and spilt the costs??? Was jsut a thought for you.
Kiwi totally surrports us all. In the fact that producers and photgrapghers like himslef should contribute towards the costs for tests etc so that we can get to have the tests every 30 days. (Kiwi is my partner.)

Medical facilities

Post by JackHorny »

Hi Kerry - John Mason/Michael Ross shoot... remember?

Anyway - I'm pleased to see you're in agreement with me... Like I've said all along, I'm not against 30 day certs, I just don't see how the current system can cater for and cope with it.

So my reaction to it all is to say to Jason - WHY are we rushing headlong into enforcing a 30 day standard BEFORE we've addressed the infrastructure problem?

Like I keep on saying - if there is a high rate of infection resulting from the 90 day certs - I could understand it - but to my knowledge there isn't a problem - so WHY insist on the 30-day NOW?

This needs a wholly more structured and well thought out approach and I certainly hope that this gets addressed at the Meeting in 3 weeks time...

So if you had an STD, how many people could you pass it to in 90 days, a lot more than in 30 days. There are clinics all over the UK where people can get tests, they are doing it at the moment, it just needs planning. What is stopping you getting a test and when you go back to pick up your results, booking the next one?

Jason - I cannot get a test done local to me... I have to travel to London - this is at considerable expense. The recompense for a stud is such that having to travel to London every month (and assuming everything goes to plan on the day) would mean I probably run at a substantial financial loss... I am lucky if I get used in a shoot once a month...

But PLEASE answer my question - IS THERE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF INFECTIONS WITHIN THE INDUSTRY AT PRESENT UNDER THE 90-DAY STD?

So know where near you in Central England offer HIV & STD tests? Sorry I do not understand that, as there are performers all over the UK who do get tested, they all do not come to London. I think you need to contact your local NHS trust and they will tell you what hospital offer a clinic. If you require a letter stating it is for work, I am sure the production campnay booking you would do this.

There has not been a major increase in STD's but sometimes the number does increase, what we are looking to do is reduce this and also stop the spread when the EU opens up and new performers from Eastern Europe come in to the UK.

Also, we do not know how many female performer, doing only G/G shoots may be carring an STD as it does not always show in women, and if not treated can cause problems later in life for them.

Is that not good enough to bring the HIV & STD tests in every 30 days, to improve health and safety?

Jason - I have contacted my local GUM clinic and asked for a certificate - their response is a big fat ZERO. I can have the tests and they will be provided free of charge - and quite possibly as regularly as I require them(?)

They will NOT provide a certificate EVEN IF YOU OFFER TO PAY. I have told them it is for a requirement to work in the Adult Industry but it still receives a point blank refusal.

If you take a straw poll of thie country I think you will find that is the case for the VAST majority of the UK NHS trusts.

Hi Jack

We always insist on condoms because it's only 100% way of being safe, the HIV cert. is not worth the paper its printed on but gives people a peace of mind in the industry.
The good thing about this issue is that it will put the cards on the table over the real safeness of preformers as a lot are in the dark still over the risks they are taking, yes condoms can split but in 30 films i've made this as never happened. You speak about amateurs as though they are a risk but in fact most like us are very health conscience & this is why we work with other amateurs most of the time, saying this i don't mean Pro adult workers are a risk but for their sakes its about time things reached a head in this country over health issues because without them there would be a big hole in the UK industry.
