Alice comes to her uncle's mansion for the summer holidays. She immediately catches the maid's attention. Uncle Georges teaches her how to play blind-man's-bluff. She writes everything in her diary: how her uncle teaches the maid how to peel potatoes, how aunt Madeleine plays with the dumb gardener. Alice feels attracted by the gardener and when he is given the sack, Céline (Alice) leaves the house with him.
